Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

We would like to update you on work to balance enrolment at schools in south-central Calgary. On Feb 11, 2025, the Board of Trustees approved the relocation of CBE Home Education from Windsor Park School to Bel-Aire School. As a result of the decision, Windsor Park School will reopen as a regular program kindergarten to Grade 4 for the 2025-2026 year and beyond. To help balance enrolment in the area, a school designation change will be implemented for the communities of Britannia, Elboya, Manchester, Parkhill and Windsor Park.

For Britannia, Elboya, Manchester, Parkhill and Windsor Park:

Kindergarten to Grade 4 students currently designated to Elboya School are redesignated to Windsor Park School as follows:

  • 2025-2026 school year: All kindergarten to Grade 3 regular program students are designated to Windsor Park School.
    • Current kindergarten-Grade 2 Elboya School students will be automatically transferred to Windsor Park School for Grades 1 to 3 in 2025-2026.
    • Current Grade 3 regular program students who will be in Grade 4 for the 2025-2026 school year will remain at Elboya School.
  • 2026-2027 and beyond: All kindergarten to Grade 4 regular program students are designated to Windsor Park School.
  • Grade 5 to 9 regular program students currently designated to Elboya School remain designated to Elboya School.
  • There are no changes to French Immersion or late French program designations for these communities.

No changes for current Grade 3-9 students attending Elboya School

Elboya School will operate as a Grade 4 to 9 school in the 2025-2026 school year, which means that current Grade 3 to 8 students who live in the Elboya School boundary and attend Elboya School will remain at the school for the 2025-2026 school year, provided they do not move out of the designated attendance area.

Windsor Park School will open as a kindergarten to Grade 3 school in its first year and expand to a kindergarten to Grade 4 configuration the following year. This means current kindergarten to Grade 2 students will transition to the new school in 2025-2026 and remain at Windsor Park School until they move to middle school at Elboya School.

How do I register for school next year?

Kindergarten and Grade 1 registration for the 2025-2026 school year began on Jan. 13, 2025. Any new registrations submitted for Elboya School will be automatically transferred to Windsor Park School. Current students in kindergarten to Grade 2 do not need to register. These students will automatically be transferred to Windsor Park School.

For more information on how to register, please visit our website.

Why is this change happening?

The CBE is experiencing record enrolment growth. To address this, changes are being made to balance enrolment across our schools.

In May 2024, the former Bel-Aire School was returned to the CBE from charter school use. The return of this school provides for an additional 200 elementary school spaces in the area. On Feb. 11, 2025, the Board of Trustees voted in favour of the relocation of the Home Education Program from Windsor Park School to Bel-Aire School. As a result, we will be opening a regular program Kindergarten to Grade 4 at Windsor Park School. Additionally, Elboya School will become a Grade 5 to 9 school, serving regular program, early French Immersion, and late French Immersion students. This decision means that designation changes are needed to balance enrolment across schools in south-central Calgary. These changes will help alleviate current and anticipated enrolment pressures in the area while keeping community cohorts together.

How will students get to school?

Students are eligible for transportation to their designated school if they live beyond the walk zone. Visit Busing & Transportation for more information. For students in French Immersion, please also visit Transportation for Alternative Programs.
