Dear Parents/Guardians,
As the City of Calgary continues to grow, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) is committed to providing strong and stable learning environments that keep peers together, while working to alleviate enrolment pressures.
Why am I receiving this notice?
According to CBE records, you are living in the Mahogany community, and your child(ren) or current school may be impacted by the designation changes outlined in this notice.
What is changing?
Bayside School, the overflow receiver for Mahogany School, has reached capacity for some grades.
Effective immediately, any new student registrations from the Mahogany community that cannot be accommodated at Mahogany School or Bayside School will be overflowed to Andrew Sibbald School.
- Andrew Sibbald School (K-5) is in the community of Lake Bonavista at 1711 Lake Bonavista Dr SE Calgary, AB T2J 2X9, phone 403-777-6830
All kindergarten to Grade 5 students living in the Mahogany community who attend one of the overflow schools will be placed on a call-back list and offered a place at Mahogany School or at Bayside School. Designated call-back windows will be established and clearly communicated to ensure minimal disruption to students and school operations.
Students currently attending Mahogany School or overflowed to Bayside School will see no changes and can remain at their school as long as they continue to live within the designated area.
Please note, all new CBE registrations in kindergarten to Grade 5 are still required to register at Mahogany School.
Why is this change happening?
In January 2023, we informed families in the Mahogany area that Mahogany School had reached capacity and any new students who could not be accommodated would be overflowed to Bayside School.
Since then, enrolment has continued to increase as more families move into the Mahogany School boundary. The schools can no longer accept all Mahogany students, and a second overflow is now required.
How does a call-back list work?
Families on the call-back list will be notified if space becomes available at Mahogany School or at Baysde School during the school year. If space opens, it will be offered to students on the call-back list who are currently attending Bayside School or Andrew Sibbald School, in order of lottery priority, during the designated call-back window.
Students remain on the call-back list as long as they live in the community of Mahogany and continue attending their designated overflow school. Students will be removed from the call-back list if they move out of the Mahogany community or transfer from their designated overflow school.
Any new registrations received for the 2025-26 school year will be added to the call-back list based on priority designation and the date and time of their registration.
How will students get to school?
Students are eligible for transportation to their designated school if they live beyond the walk zone. Visit Busing & Transportation for more information. Service levels and fees for the 2026-27 school year will be confirmed by May 2026.
What if I have more questions?
Please contact your principal if you have questions regarding these changes.
If you still have questions or require additional information, please contact the Area 5 office at Area5@cbe.ab.ca or 403-777-8412 (extension 0).
